Sgt. Joseph Habecker (Class of 2003)
B.Co. 1/150th AVN

During his last year of high school, Joe enlisted in the US Army.   He attended Millersville University, did his training in the summers, and graduated from Army Ranger school as well. He is now the chief of a Black Hawk helicopter crew stationed in southern Iraq.  You might remember his mom, who worked in the cafeteria at CDHS for 13 years, until this year.

Dear Friends,
As many of you know, Matthew has been deployed to Iraq.  He left Ft. Sill in mid April to go to Kuwait, where they stayed two weeks to become acclimated to time and climate change.  They also did some training with copters in desert.  He is finally at Camp Delta in Al Kut, Iraq, a city about 35 miles from the Iranian border.  As one might expect, living conditions are not too great. They are living in 10-20 men tents, must walk 2 miles to the phone and pay $5 per hour to use the Internet. The PX is mobile(in a tractor trailer that goes from camp to camp) and inventory can be limited.  Of course, this is paradise compared to our contemporaries in Vietnam and our dads and uncles in WWII.  However, I know that mail from home is very good at lifting morale, so I am sending his address and hoping that you might find the time to send a card.  The APO zip code is in New York, so a regular domestic stamp is sufficient.

Debbie,
No, not still deployed.  I am stationed in Germany at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center as the Chief of Training.  Basically sit at a desk now. I should be deploying to Afghanistan sometime next year.
